鎌倉浄明寺宅 HOUSE IN KAMAKURA
鎌倉で、雪ノ下や二階堂などはよく知られた地名だが、八幡宮の東奥に広がる浄明寺も趣の深い地域である。
In Kamakura, places like Yukinoshita and Nikaidō are well-known, but Jōmyōji, which stretches out east of the Hachimangū Shrine, is also an area full of charm and history.
滑川をはさんで、平地が北と南に広がっていて、南側には竹寺で有名な報国寺、そして北には鎌倉五山の一つ浄妙寺がある。
Separated by the Namerikawa River, flatlands stretch out to the north and south. On the southern side is Hōkokuji Temple, famous for its bamboo garden, while to the north stands Jōmyōji, one of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kamakura.
古名が残っていて、住み慣れた人が、駅からタクシーに乗って「稲荷小路」と告げると、道祖神のある辻に連れて行ってくれる。
The old names remain, and when a local, familiar with the area, takes a taxi from the station and says ‘Inari Alley,’ they’ll be taken to the crossroads where a roadside deity stands.

This flatland, inhabited for generations, is crisscrossed by narrow alleys, giving the impression of a place where people still live quietly and steadfastly, much as they always have.
谷戸とよばれる鎌倉特有の谷をたどると一番奥の高いところにその住宅がある。
